VISUAL TESTING

PCN ISO 9712 & SNT-TC-1A

Visual Testing level 1

Designed to provide a full appreciation of the methods and practices of visual testing. This course is PCN recognised and provides excellent preparation for Visual Testing Level 1 examinations. It meets in full the training hour requirements as specified by the relevant PCN documentation.

  • Environmental factors, direct and indirect methods of visual assessment

  • Visual inspection equipment

  • Surface conditions

  • Inspection and testing criteria

  • The reporting of results

  • Application of a written instruction

  • Codes and standards

  • Product technology (welds, castings, wrought), in-service and secondary process defects

 

Course Objectives

An individual certified to Visual Testing Level 1 has demonstrated competence to carry out Visual  Testing according to written instructions and under the supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 personnel. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, Level 1 personnel may be authorised by the employer to perform the following in accordance with Visual Testing instructions:

  • Set up Visual Testing equipment

  • Perform Visual Inspection tests

  • Record and classify results of the tests according to written criteria

  • Report the results of Visual tests

 

Visual Testing Level 1 certified personnel shall neither be responsible for the choice of test method or technique to be used, nor for the interpretation of the test results.

 

Identification

You must bring along some form of photographic ID. Please note this should be government issued e.g. Driver’s license or passport.

 

Fitness

If you have any special needs, please let us know as soon as possible.

 

Prerequisites

  • The candidate must be 18 years of age

  • Complete booking form

  • Meet PCN/GEN requirements

 

PCN Certification is awarded once the student has demonstrated the required experience and training hours have been met and successful completion of the PCN examination has been achieved.

Level 1 – 16 training hours and 1 month experience.

Course Objectives

An individual certified to Visual Testing Level 2 has demonstrated competence to perform NDT according to NDT procedures. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, Level 2 personnel may be authorised by the employer to:

  • Select the Visual Testing technique for the test method to be used

  • Define the limitations of application of the testing method

  • Translate Visual Testing codes, standards, specifications and procedures into Visual Testing instructions adapted to the actual working conditions

  • Set up and verify Visual Testing equipment settings

  • Perform and supervise Ultrasonic tests

  • Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications or procedures

  • Prepare written Visual Testing instructions

  • Carry out and supervise all tasks at or below Level 2

  • Provide guidance for personnel at or below Level 2

  • Report the results of Visual tests.
