PCN Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Plate inc. Thickness Gauging

This course teaches both basic general Ultrasonic theory as well as the practical aspects required to perform thickness checks, locate & size wrought defects e.g. laminations in accordance with ISO 20807.

 

Course Content

  • Basic concepts

  • Ultrasound

  • Principals of ultrasonic testing

  • Flaw detector (operation and use)

  • Defect location and sizing techniques

  • Use of calibration and reference blocks

  • Report writing and discussion of relevant standards and specifications (BS, EN etc)

  • Basic Product Technology

 

Course Objectives

An individual certified to Ultrasonic Testing Level 2 has demonstrated competence to perform NDT according to NDT procedures. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, Level 2 personnel may be authorised by the employer to:

  • Select the Ultrasonic Testing technique for the test method to be used

  • Define the limitations of application of the testing method

  • Translate Ultrasonic Testing codes, standards, specifications and procedures into Ultrasonic Testing instructions adapted to the actual working conditions

  • Set up and verify Ultrasonic Testing equipment settings

  • Perform and supervise Ultrasonic tests

  • Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications or procedures

  • Prepare written Ultrasonic Testing instructions

  • Carry out and supervise all tasks at or below Level 2

  • Provide guidance for personnel at or below Level 2

  • Report the results of Ultrasonic tests.

You must bring along some form of photographic ID. Please note this should be government issued e.g. Driver’s license or passport.

PCN Certification is awarded once the student has demonstrated the required experience and training hours have been met and successful completion of the PCN examination has been achieved.

Level 2 – 40 training hours and 4 months experience.

Ultrasonic Testing level 1

This course is a combination of the Ultrasonic Testing Introduction course with appropriate Ultrasonic Testing theory and practical training. This course is PCN recognised and provides excellent preparation for Ultrasonic Testing Level 1 examinations. It meets in full the training hour requirements as specified by the relevant PCN documentation.

 

Course Content

  • Ultrasonic testing terminology

  • Basic ultrasonic concepts

  • Ultrasound

  • Principals of ultrasonic testing

  • Flaw detector (operation and use)

  • Defect location and sizing techniques

  • Use of calibration and reference blocks

  • Plotting systems

  • Application of a written instruction

  • Examination of samples, welds, castings and wrought products

  • Report writing and discussion of relevant standards and specifications (BS EN etc.)

 

Course Objectives

An individual certified to Ultrasonic Testing Level 1 has demonstrated competence to carry out Ultrasonic Testing according to written instructions and under the supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 personnel. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, Level 1 personnel may be authorised by the employer to perform the following in accordance with Ultrasonic Testing instructions:

  • Set up Ultrasonic Testing equipment

  • Perform Ultrasonic Inspection tests

  • Record and classify results of the tests according to written criteria

  • Report the results of Ultrasonic tests

 

Ultrasonic Testing Level 1 certified personnel shall neither be responsible for the choice of test method or technique to be used, nor for the interpretation of the test results.

This course is a combination of the Ultrasonic Testing Introduction course with appropriate Ultrasonic Testing theory and practical training. This course is PCN recognised and provides excellent preparation for Ultrasonic Testing Level 2 examinations. It meets in full the training hour requirements as specified by the relevant PCN documentation.

Ultrasonic Testing level 2 - 3.8, 3.9 Nozzle & Node Welds

This course extends your practical Ultrasonic Testing knowledge in the Welds category to include Nozzles (3.8) & Nodes (3.9). In gaining Nozzle (3.8) certification you are also then certified to test “T” Welds (3.7). This course is PCN recognised and provides excellent preparation for Ultrasonic Testing Level 2 examinations

  • Set through preparations

  • Set on preparations

  • Both Part & Full penetration welds

 

Course Objectives

Extend your practical Ultrasonic Testing knowledge in the welds category to include nozzles (3.8) and nodes (3.9).
