MAGNETIC PARTICLE TESTING

PCN ISO 9712 & SNT-TC-1A

Magnetic Testing level 1

Candidates will have the opportunity to use the various techniques on welds, castings and wrought products whilst gaining detailed theoretical and practical knowledge on all the commonly encountered magnetic particle testing techniques. This course is PCN recognised and provides excellent preparation for Magnetic Particle Testing Level 1 examinations. It meets in full the training hour requirements as specified by the relevant PCN documentation.

Course Objectives

An individual certified to Magnetic Particle Testing Level 1 has demonstrated competence to carry out Magnetic Particle Testing according to written instructions and under the supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 personnel. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, Level 1 personnel may be authorised by the employer to perform the following in accordance with Magnetic Particle Testing instructions:

  • Set up Magnetic Particle Testing equipment

  • Perform Magnetic Particle Inspection tests

  • Record and classify results of the tests according to written criteria

  • Report the results of Magnetic Particle tests

 

Magnetic Particle Testing Level 1 certified personnel shall neither be responsible for the choice of test method or technique to be used, nor for the interpretation of the test results.

 

Identification

You must bring along some form of photographic ID. Please note this should be government issued e.g. Driver’s license or passport.

Prerequisites

  • The candidate must be 18 years of age

  • Complete booking form

  • Meet PCN/GEN requirements

 

PCN Certification is awarded once the student has demonstrated the required experience and training hours have been met and successful completion of the PCN examination has been achieved.

Level 1 – 16 training hours and 1 month experience.

Course Objectives

An individual certified to Magnetic Particle Testing Level 2 has demonstrated competence to perform NDT according to NDT procedures. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, Level 2 personnel may be authorised by the employer to:

  • Select the Magnetic Particle Testing technique for the test method to be used

  • Define the limitations of application of the testing method

  • Translate Magnetic Particle Testing codes, standards, specifications and procedures into Magnetic Particle Testing instructions adapted to the actual working conditions

  • Set up and verify Magnetic Particle Testing equipment settings

  • Perform and supervise Magnetic Particle tests

  • Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications or procedures

  • Prepare written Magnetic Particle Testing instructions

  • Carry out and supervise all tasks at or below Level 2

  • Provide guidance for personnel at or below Level 2

  • Report the results of Magnetic Particle tests.
